So yes, i am backtracking but I couldn't not post about my friend Tommy's visit. Tommy is the only one who has actually made it out here to visit and I very much appreciated seeing someone from home. He came down Saturday and our first stop was my winery. I gave him the personal tour, along with a taste of some of our wines. Since there are so many great wineries in the area I decided to take Tommy to some wineries I had yet to explore. We went to Adelsheim, Penner Ash, Willakenzie, and tried but was too late to make it into Elk Cove. All were good, but particularly liked Adelsheim and the architecture of Penner Ash, not to mention a few of their Pinots!
After tasting we took Tommy into McMinnville for my second dinner at La Rambla. We ended up the night at our favorite local dive bar Kin's where we had loads of fun singing karaokee. I stunned them with Elvira, the locals were even dancing :) Tommy has a good pic, I'll try to get it and post it.
Sunday I had to work, tommy slept off his jet lag and for dinner we went back to McMinnville (not many places to go around here....) and tried the Japanese restaurant. It was awesome! Afterwards we treated ourselves to ice cream...luckily noone was in the shop, so we got to taste test most of the flavors!

Hey Jenny!
I'm back East and as I already told you, getting back into the daily grind really puts into perspective the opportunity you've taken here. I envy you.
Thank you for showing me a great time while I visited. It was interesting and fun to visit the wineries near you, especially since the tastings were gratis! Karaokee was insane, I don't know how I was convinced to do it. I'm thinking that Rocco had something to do with it.
Thanks to Amelia too for trying to answer my endless questions about terroir, varietals, sulfur dioxide and for generally filling the gaps in your wine knowledge (I didn't realize you had soooo many! Don't worry, you'll catch up).
I don't expect to be back anytime soon so you and David will have to bowl without me...but skiing, now that's a different story. I'm going to try and get my snow legs together so I can tag along on that "hypothetical" Vail excursion...oh wait, was I invited? Well, if not, I'm crashing that party! Tell David I owe him a glass of "Hot" spirits...or maybe I'll share a bottle of my special stash beers with him. Oh, and I've got a question for him about his piece of Willy Wonka equipment...It's about it's "shortcut" purpose vs. agricultural methods.
As for the rest of your merry bunch of interns, Liz, Josh, and Zach, I'm sorry I didn't get more of a chance to get to know them. Next time...don't get everyone in trouble at the rock pile the week before you have a visitor...just kidding. I would like to have gotten nutty with that head banging, virus spreading, Rumpelstiltskin sleeping, pedal to the metal truck crashing, can't stop laughin', cork smellin' Italian though. I think we would have gotten along well. Make sure you try to get him to the East coast sometime.
Take care,
-Tommy
p.s. - I'm not gay, but I have to go back to swallowing. That spitting crap just only makes sense if you're an intern!
Tommy, thank-you for being such a good friend to Jenny, Bryan, and Sarah!
