Harvest is here. Finally!!! Worked my first long day....11 hours.
I was so excited when I saw the grapes! As you can see from the photo I got to work the sorting line. Had to look for anything green...like leaves, raisins, bird damaged fruit, and insects! Our first batch of syrah was minimal, so once the pinot comes in they will hire temps to do the sorting. It was fun though to have an opportunity to be on the sorting line. The rest of the day I performed alot of testing for our other fruit that hasn't come in yet, as well as the syrah after it was in the fermentor tanks. As for the fruit we brought in, it will now be cold soaking in the fermentor tanks for the next week!

Hi Jen,
It must have been very exciting today!! It seems you are learning a lot......
Hey, I need to start doing all the wine tasting thing but Im telling you I wont be doing the spitting...... ;-)
Well, have fun and take care!
Looks like lots of fun. I see you got the purple gloves, does it make you feel like you are back in the lab? Haha. A much more fun lab for sure!!
Yes I love my nitrile gloves...although we don't wear gloves or any other PPE in our lab. Heck we can even mouth pipet! I ordered a bulb and was chastised for not mouth pipetting :)
It's wine...not sulfuric acid. A mouth pipette is great! Just start a test at 4:59 and at 5:00 it changes from a piece of scientific research testing equipment, to a rapid transport device for high glucose liquids...in other words, a STRAW!
Hi Jen,
It looks like you're having a great time! This is my first chance to check out the blog and I loved your travel pics and stories. A trip across country sounds like it would be a great time!
Fyi...I'm posted as Jamison because of her blog account, I don't have a google account of my own!
